Ladies and gentlemen, buckle up for a ride into the world of automobiles, where every new model promises to outdo its predecessor. Today in the spotlight, we have the Volkswagen Golf, or as they call it, the Volkswagen Golf, a front-wheel-drive hatchback of the "C" class.
The grand premiere of the seventh generation took place in early September 2012 at the National Gallery in Berlin, adding a touch of class to the automotive stage.
The Golf VII is constructed on the modular MQB platform, which in German translates to "Modular Transverse Matrix." Engineers poured all their know-how and a plethora of ideas into this beauty, making the body almost 100 kg lighter. They increased the proportion of high-strength steels in its construction to 80%, simultaneously reducing the drag coefficient from 0.31 to 0.27.
The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf has grown in size compared to its predecessor: 4255 mm in length and 1799 mm in width. The wheelbase has extended by 59 mm (up to 2637 mm), and the track has widened (by 8 mm at the front, 6 mm at the rear). This allowed the hatchback's interior to become even more spacious, and the trunk more capacious. Rear passengers' knees get an extra 15 mm, and the luggage space expands to a generous 380 liters.
True to Volkswagen's tradition, the base Golf model doesn't overflow with opulence, but the list of options is impressive. Adaptive dampers, a 360-degree camera, and the PreCrash safety system with automatic braking stand out among the extras for the Golf VII. By the way, the hatchback driver can choose from five powertrain and chassis algorithms - Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport, and Individual. In turns, the electronic simulation of a differential lock called XDS comes to the rescue, slowing down the slipping wheel.
Now, let's talk about the engine lineup of the seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf. It boasts two gasoline powerhouses - the 1.2 TSI (85 hp) and the 1.4 TSI (140 hp) - and two turbo-diesels - the 1.6 TDI (105 hp) and the 2.0 TDI (150 hp). The most powerful engine, equipped with a cylinder deactivation system under partial loads, sips a mere 4.8 liters of fuel per 100 km in a mixed cycle. As for the transmission, the engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed preselective "robot" DSG.
